WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday she believed Congress would meet a mid-February deadline to send an economic stimulus package to President Barack Obama.
“We’re on schedule for our timetable to have a bill on the president’s desk to be signed before the Presidents Day recess. Again, if not, there will be no recess,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, told reporters after a meeting between Obama and congressional leaders from both parties.
The U.S. Presidents Day holiday is Feb. 16.
Asked whether he was worried that Republicans would block the stimulus package, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said “No.”
