Turkish govt lowers 2008 energy consumption estimate

ISTANBUL, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Turkey’s government has cut its estimate for the country’s electricity consumption in 2008 to 198 billion kwh down from an earlier 204 billion kwh, acting undersecretary of the energy ministry, Selahattin Cimen told a conference on Monday.

Turkey’s economic growth fell to 0.5 percent in the third quarter of 2008 as the global economic crisis bites firms and consumers. (Reporting by Tolgahan Ozkan)
