Tokyo rubber soars to highest since Sept 1980

TOKYO, May 23 (Reuters) - The benchmark rubber contract on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange <0#JRU:> jumped to its highest since September 1980 on Friday due to heavy fund buying amid supply worries in Thailand and as oil prices rebounded from early lows.

By 0641 GMT, the benchmark TOCOM contract for October delivery rose as far as 326.8 yen per kg, up more than 2 percent from Thursday’s close of 319.6 yen. (Reporting by Chikafumi Hodo)
