BAGHDAD, March 24 (Reuters) - Iraq has invited a consortium of French energy giant Total TOTF.PA and U.S. firm Chevron Corp CVX.N to bid against Norway's StatoilHydro STL.OL to develop its southern Nahr Bin Umar field, the Oil Ministry said on Tuesday.
“The Total and Chevron consortium are favoured to win this contract because they have together studied a group of Iraqi oil fields, including Nahr Bin Umar,” a senior official in the ministry told Reuters.
He added that a third company would be invited to join in the bidding process but it had not yet been decided which one. (Reporting Ahmed Rasheed; Writing by Tim Cocks)
