Oil Report

TABLE-U.S. refinery expansion plans

 (Updates Motiva Port Arthur)
Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Arabia's state oil company announced Sept. 21
they would go ahead with a $7 billion expansion of a jointly-owned Texas
refinery that will make the plant one of the biggest in the world.
The expansion will add 325,000 barrels per day of capacity to the
companies' 285,000 bpd Motiva Port Arthur, Texas refinery.
The big bet on the refining sector comes as other oil companies have
slashed some 500,000 barrels per day of planned refinery capacity expansions in
the United States since mid-2006 amid rising costs and doubts over future fuel
demand, according to the U.S. government's Energy Information Administration.
