VANCOUVER, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Pregnant snowboarder Amelie Kober cautiously pulled out of the women’s parallel giant slalom on Friday after realising she would not be in the Olympic medals.
A crash in the quarter-finals saw the 22-year-old German eliminated from a possible top-three finish and she stopped racing.
“I pulled out because I’m pregnant. I did not want to race after I fell,” said Kober.
Though she could have kept racing in the consolation heats to finish as high as fifth, her decision to stop put her in eighth place.
“Eighth place is not too bad,” she said. “I’m going to have much better news in a few months.”
