UPDATE 2-Pengrowth pipeline ruptures in northern Alberta

* Rupture and fire on smaller oil pipeline

* No word on size of spill

* Shuts in 3,000 bpd of production (Recasts to add company statement.)

CALGARY, Alberta, June 27 (Reuters) - Pengrowth Energy Corp said on Monday it shut in a portion of its Judy Creek field in northern Alberta after one of its smaller pipelines ruptured on the weekend.

Pengrowth said a gathering line serving some of the field’s wells ruptured on Sunday, spilling an undetermined amount of oil.

While there was a fire at the site of the rupture 23 km (14 miles) southeast of Swan Hills, Alberta, the company denied a report from the province’s Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) that there had also been an explosion.

The ERCB said earlier that some of the oil had flowed into a creek, but the spill has been contained and there were no injuries.

Pengrowth said it has shut in about 3,000 barrels per day because of the line breach.

Pengrowth shares fell 14 Canadian cents to C$11.87 by late afternoon on the Toronto Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Scott Haggett; editing by Rob Wilson)
