'Crown' star Claire Foy left breathless by pace of 'Spider's Web' drama

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Claire Foy, best known for playing Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on the small screen, thinks audiences may have to shift gears to keep up with her portrayal of goth hacker Lisbeth Salander in her new big-screen blockbuster “Girl in the Spider’s Web”.

“I’m really excited to see how people respond to the pace of the movie,” the 34-year-old said at the Rome Film Fest premiere of the latest adaptation of the best-selling Scandi-Noir “Millennium” book series.

“When I read it and when I watched it for the first time ... I was breathless by the end of it and quite overwhelmed,” she said on the red carpet late on Wednesday.

“So I am quite interested to look round at some point and go: “How’s everyone doing? How’s everyone feeling? Has anyone taken a breath yet?’”

Foy - who played the young Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix drama “The Crown” - is the third actress to take on the role of the lithe and troubled vigilante hacker on the silver screen.

Lisbeth Salander first appeared in Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” book trilogy and was given another outing in “The Girl In The Spider’s Web”, published after Larsson’s death. The instalment pits her against spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials and sees her confront her past. (Writing by Andrew Heavens; Editing by Marie-Louise Gumuchian)
