7th Circuit affirms summary judgment for HP in deadly battery fire case

A federal appeals court on Friday upheld a grant of summary judgment to Hewlett-Packard in a case alleging a lithium-ion battery in one of its laptops caused a fire that led to the death of a 23-year-old man.

The U.S. Appeals Court for the 7th Circuit said in an opinion by Judges William Bauer, Joel Flaum and Ilana Rovner that the plaintiffs’ expert witnesses were not qualified to support the case’s claims.
