Puerto Rico oversight board asks court to enforce furloughs

Aug 28 (Reuters) - Puerto Rico’s federal oversight board on Monday said it filed a lawsuit to enforce planned furloughs and pension cuts for government employees, which the island’s governor has said he will not impose.

The lawsuit asks a U.S. federal judge in San Juan to declare the measures to be part of the fiscal turnaround plan for Puerto Rico that the board approved earlier this year, and which the governor has no authority to refuse, the board said in a statement on Monday.
