FRANKFURT, Aug 25 (Reuters) - TDK Corp 6762.T launched its offer to buy German electronic parts manufacturer Epcos AG EPCGn.DE for 1.2 billion euros ($1.77 billion) on Monday, the Japanese company said in a statement.
TDK said the friendly tender offer of 17.85 euros ($26.35) per share will expire on Oct 7. By the beginning of August TDK had already acquired around 27 percent of Epcos stock.
TDK, which makes tiny components used by the hundreds in mobile phones, personal computers and flat-panel televisions, has said combining with Epcos would give it the scale to become more efficient in development, procurement and sales.
The acquisition is the biggest by a Japanese electronic parts maker on record. (Reporting by Nicola Leske)
