Exxon warns of possible flaring at Torrance refinery

HOUSTON, July 9 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp XOM.N warned of possible flaring between July 10 and 15 at its 150,000 barrel per day (bpd) Los Angeles-area refinery in Torrance, California, according to a regulatory filing with Los Angeles area air pollution regulators.

The notice to the South Coast Air Quality Management District said the flaring was unrelated to an equipment breakdown.

An Exxon spokeswoman said she did not have information immediately available about the filing.

Refineries use their giant safety flares to burn off hydrocarbons that cannot be processed normally due to planned work or unplanned malfunctions. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by David Gregorio)
