KIEV, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Monday said the previous Ukrainian government was responsible for incurring debts for the supply of Russian gas and called for them to be restructured.
Tymoshenko, returned to office in December, put debts to RosUkrEnergo, the Swiss intermediary that supplies Russian gas, at $1.072 billion and said her predecessor Viktor Yanukovich and former energy minister Yuri Boiko had run up the arrears.
“As the Yanukovich government and Boiko left this debt, I believe Boiko, who now represents RosUkrEnergo, must do all he can so this debt can be restructured over a long period of time,” Tymoshenko told a news conference. “Ukraine will not pay this debt at one go.”
