UPDATE 2-Peru protesters shut road to Buenaventura mine

(Recasts, updates with company saying production affected)

LIMA, June 15 (Reuters) - Protesters have shut access to Buenaventura's BVN.NBUEv.LM Orcopampa gold mine in Peru and its production is affected, the company said on Monday.

Buenaventura said the protest organized by people in communities near the mine was about labor and environmental demands.

The protest was held even as Peru’s largest mining federation called off a nationwide strike set to start Monday.

The nationwide strike plans were scrapped after Congress voted on retirement rules and promised to debate a profit-sharing bill.

The mine churned out 285,000 ounces of gold last year.
