Buenaventura said the protest organized by people in communities near the mine was about labor and environmental demands.
The protest was held even as Peru’s largest mining federation called off a nationwide strike set to start Monday.
The nationwide strike plans were scrapped after Congress voted on retirement rules and promised to debate a profit-sharing bill.
The mine churned out 285,000 ounces of gold last year.
