JOHANNESBURG, Dec 4 (Reuters) - South African miner Metorex MTXJ.J said on Thursday its Consolidated Murchison division was in talks with labour unions about the possible layoff of some 400 workers. The division currently employs some 1,500 workers.
“Due to the international decline in demand for antimony and the decrease in antimony prices from approximately $6,500 to $5,000 per tonne, management has initiated a review of the cost profile of Cons Murch,” it said in a statement, adding 50 percent of its costs were labour related.
