TAIPEI, May 13 (Reuters) - Taiwan's High Tech Computer Corp (HTC) 2498.TW, the world's top smartphone maker, said on Tuesday it expects to sell more than three million newly launched "Diamond" smartphones this year.
HTC Chief Executive Officer Peter Chou gave the target at a news conference.
The firm had forecast that second quarter sales would rise more than 20 percent from a year ago as it aims to sell more of its own-branded phones.
The company had posted market-beating first quarter net income of T$6.865 billion ($222 million), up 24 percent from the same period a year ago.
In addition to selling its own-branded smartphones, HTC still serves a clientele that includes T-Mobile DTEGn.DE, Verizon VZ.N, Orange, owned by France Telecom FTE.PA, and NTT DoCoMo 9437.T. (US$1=T$30.9) (Reporting by Sheena Lee; Editing by Ken Wills)
