Russia's MICEX index breaks below 1,000 points

MOSCOW, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Russia’s MICEX stocks index fell below the psychologically key 1,000 points for the first time in over two years on Tuesday, dragged down by weakness in global markets, the financial sector and the oil price. By 0718 GMT, the index was down nearly 7 percent on the day at 995.22 .MCX.

The benchmark dollar-denominated RTS index fell nearly 5 percent to 1,215.17 points — its lowest since January 2006. (Reporting by Toni Vorobyova, editing by Gleb Bryanski)
