South Africa's retail sales up 2.5 percent year/year in August

JOHANNESBURG, Oct 17 (Reuters) - South African retail sales rose 2.5 percent year-on-year in August after increasing by a revised 1.4 percent in July, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, sales increased 0.6 percent from a 1.3 percent expansion previously. Sales were up 1.9 percent in the three months to the end of August compared with the same period last year, Statistics South Africa said. (Reporting by Mfuneko Toyana Editing by James Macharia)
