Samsung sees flat chip demand growth in H2 -media quotes exec

SEOUL, July 1 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics sees the global memory chip market remaining weak throughout this year, local media reported on Friday, quoting the head of the firm’s chip business.

“Demand usually tends to pick up in the second half of the year from the previous half, but the overall trend this year is likely to remain flattish. It’s uncertain whether second-half demand will rebound from the first half level,” Kwon Oh-hyun was quoted as saying by online news outlet Edaily.

Kwon was named on Friday to lead Samsung’s new business unit encompassing memory chips, system LSI and LCD flat screens as a part of a move to overhaul its struggling LCD display operation.

Samsung said it could not confirm the reported comments. (Reporting by Miyoung Kim; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
