WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. Defense Department on Tuesday said it had approved the sale of 12 AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters built by Boeing Co (BA.N) to Saudi Arabia, in a deal valued at up to $598 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which oversees major arms deals, notified Congress about the possible sale on Tuesday. Lawmakers have 30 days to block the sale, although such actions are rare since they are generally vetted beforehand.
Boeing would be the main contractor for the deal, along with General Electric Co (GE.N), which would supply 30 of its T700-GE-701D engines, and Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) for various other equipment. (Reporting by Andrea Shalal-Esa; Editing by Phil Berlowitz)
