UPDATE 1-Belgium's Solvay names Ilham Kadri to replace Clamadieu as CEO

Oct 9 (Reuters) - Belgian chemicals group Solvay has named Ilham Kadri, chief executive of U.S. hygiene technology and services company Diversey, to succeed Jean-Pierre Clamadieu as CEO next year.

Clamadieu, who oversaw Solvay’s shift to more specialised, higher margin businesses since his appointment in 2012, became chairman of French utility Engie in May.

Solvay said on Tuesday that Kadri, 49, would join the company on Jan. 1 and there would be a handover period of two months with Clamadieu.

“She is passionate about science and innovation and that is really at the core of the DNA both of our history and our group today,” Solvay chairman Nicolas Boel said on a conference call.

“Solvay’s portfolio has made a significant shift over the past five to six years and has brought a cultural change... we need to be ready for the next step - press ahead with the transformation and unleash the growth potential.”

A Moroccan and French national, Kadri joined Diversey’s owner Sealed Air in 2013, leading the unit’s spin-off and acquisition by Bain Capital Private Equity in 2017.

At Diversey, which has 9,200 employees and revenue of $2.7 billion, Kadri oversaw the company’s expansion into sectors such as healthcare and food service while delivering double-digit growth in profits and revenue from 2013.

Kadri previously worked for Shell-Basell, UCB-Cytec, Huntsman and Dow Chemical, and was engaged in research & development and strategy during a career spanning 22 years. (Reporting by Alan Charlish in Gdynia and Phil Blenkinsop in Brussels; editing by Jason Neely and Alexander Smith)
