Sony and Qimonda to form DRAM joint venture

TOKYO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Sony Corp (6758.T) and Qimonda QI.N said on Tuesday they would establish a joint venture to design DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chips for consumer and graphic applications.

The two companies said in a joint statement that the 50-50 joint venture would aim to start operations by the end of 2007 with 30 specialists from Sony and Qimonda.

Qimonda is a memory chip unit of German semiconductor maker Infineon (IFXGn.DE)
