Blue Jackets land Williams in trade with Thrashers

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired center Jason Williams from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for defenseman Clay Wilson and a sixth-round pick in the 2009 NHL draft, the teams announced on Wednesday.

Williams, who helped the Detroit Red Wings lift the 2002 Stanley Cup, has seven goals and 18 points in 41 games with the Thrashers this season.

In 337 career NHL games with Atlanta, Detroit and the Chicago Blackhawks, Williams has 73 goals and 103 assists.

Williams also represented Canada at the 2006 World Championships, scoring twice and adding five assists in nine games.

Wilson, who has spent most of the season in the minor leagues, has appeared in just five games for the Blue Jackets this campaign and registered one assist.
