PRATO NEVOSO, Italy (Reuters) - Spaniard Oscar Pereiro broke his arm when he crashed in spectacular fashion during the 15th stage of the Tour de France, his team said on Sunday.
“He suffers a full fracture of his left humerus,” Caisse d’Epargne said in a statement.
“He will be taken in helicopter to the hospital of Turin where he will undergo a scan to check if there is no other lesion in particular to the blood vessels or the nerves.”
The 2006 Tour champion hit a crash barrier on the descent of the Col d’Agnel and fell some five meters lower down. The medical car was summoned.
Pereiro, who rides for Caisse d’Epargne, was 15th overall, six minutes and one second behind then leader Cadel Evans of Australia.
