Global steel demand to grow 1.4 pct in 2019 - worldsteel

TOKYO, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Growth in global steel demand is expected to slow to 1.4 percent next year to reach 1.681 billion tonnes, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) said on Tuesday.

In 2018, global steel demand is on course to grow 3.9 percent to 1.658 billion tonnes, driven by top consumer China, it added.

Steel use in China is expected to rise 6.0 percent this year to 781 million tonnes and remain flat in 2019, worldsteel said. (Reporting by Yuka Obayashi Editing by Chang-Ran Kim)
