As strange as it may seem, Facebook job recruiting may become the new wave of the future. Social media recruiting efforts are on the rise, with some businesses not only turning to Facebook but to other social media platforms like Twitter.
Most candidates and employers might be wary of using Facebook for their recruitment efforts.
After all, the use of Facebook in job applications seems to be mixing your personal life with your professional life - something that most tend to want to avoid. Is social media recruiting useful to your business?
There certainly are some advantages. Facebook recruiting can utilize known networks to evaluate employees before you even contact them for an interview. Employees can also refer their friends or contacts through Facebook for positions.
And, different applications are being developed to help facilitate Facebook recruiting. BeKnown, a recruiting tool on Facebook, already has 800,000 monthly users, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Employers contacting passive candidates off Facebook should be aware of the potential drawbacks. In focus groups, people tended to be adverse to employers trying to get in touch with them via their Facebook page, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Some consider their Facebook pages private and only meant for friends and family. To these more private individuals, random employers contacting them through their Facebook page may scream “invasive.”
Facebook recruiting may be met with some skepticism, but it seems that many companies these days are increasingly turning to social media sites. LinkedIn, the professional networking site, is a popular choice for job-seekers and employers to connect.
So it’s probably no surprise that Facebook job recruiting and other social media recruiting efforts are likely here to stay. It’s up to employers, however, to decide how best to augment their hiring practices with these new tools.
