UPDATE 1-Nokia picks ST-Ericsson as key China 3G supplier

* STM, Ericsson j/v to supply TD-SCDMA chipset platforms

* See co-operation boosting the market

HELSINKI, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Chip maker ST-Ericsson will be the key supplier of chipset platforms for Nokia's NOK1V.HE Symbian-based devices using China's 3G technology, the two companies said on Friday.

“The partnership will accelerate the pace of TD-SCDMA development, shorten time to market, and boost the TD market,” Pascal Langlois, chief sales and marketing officer at ST-Ericsson, said in a statement.

Nokia in October launched its first TD-SCDMA phone, the 6788 model.

ST-Ericsson is a 50-50 venture of STMicro STM.PA and Sweden's Ericsson ERICb.ST.
