(Reuters) - Hitachi Ltd is considering entering the solar cell business through a partnership with Showa Shell Sekiyu KK, Hitachi President Takashi Kawamura told the Nikkei business daily.

Hitachi has already started negotiations to sell its panel factory for plasma televisions in Miyazaki Prefecture to Showa Shell, which would then convert the facility into a solar panel plant, the paper said.

“I believe that an agreement will be reached soon,” Kawamura told the business daily.
