Telecom Italia keen to discuss fiber-to-the-home tie-up with Open Fiber -CEO

MILAN, June 20 (Reuters) - Telecom Italia (TIM) is willing to discuss a combination of the Italian phone group’s fiber-to-the-home broadband operations with that of smaller rival Open Fiber, Chief Executive Amos Genish said on Wednesday.

“We are clearly seeing the economical benefits coming from such business combination on the fiber-to-the-home efforts only,” Genish told a journalist briefing.

The executive, who took over at Italy’s biggest phone group lasT year, also said a three-year business plan presented in March was proceeding well and he was encouraged by the feedback he had received from rating agencies.

He said he expected TIM to return to investment grade rating next year, which would pave the way for the former state phone monopoly to resume dividends payments.

The Israeli-born executive said there were some individual board members who are “feeding untrue, unreliable, speculation” behind the scenes, interfering with every day management.

But he added this neither impacted his or the management’s commitment to deliver on the new strategy plan. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak, editing by Stephen Jewkes)
