Ecuador court to consider Congress bid to halt vote

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador’s top constitutional court on Thursday said it would consider a motion filed by Congress to suspend an April 15 referendum that seeks to curb the influence of traditional political parties.

Lawmakers say President Rafael Correa failed to inform them of rewrites he made to an initial referendum proposal they had approved in February and want the referendum halted. Analysts say the constitutional court could take between 30 and 60 days to rule on the motion.
