Germany's Merkel saddened to see Notre-Dame on fire

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was deeply saddened and sorry to see Monday’s images of fire devastating Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, which she described as a “symbol of France and our European culture”.

“Our thoughts are with our French friends,” Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert, quoted her as saying in a tweet.
