ROME (Reuters) - Economy Minister Giovanni Tria said on Wednesday Italy must reduce its “enormous” public debt to shore up market confidence.
Speaking the day after the EU moved closer to taking disciplinary action over Italy’s growing debt, Tria added that Italy must avoid the EU infringement, a procedure that could eventually saddle the country with large fines.
He was speaking at a conference in Rome.
