MILAN, Feb 20 (Reuters) - UniCredit has not received any requests from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) which is probing rival Raiffeisen over its business related to Russia, a spokesperson for the Italian bank said.
Raiffeisen and UniCredit are European banks with strong links with Russia, where they both own a local lender. Unlike France’s Societe Generale, which sold its Russian unit at a loss after the Ukraine war broke out, they have both decided not to extricate themselves from the country.
OFAC has asked Raiffeisen for details of its exposure in Russia, the partially occupied Donbas, Ukraine and Syria, including about the transactions and activity of certain clients, a source has told Reuters. (Reporting by Valentina Za, editing by Alvise Armellini)
