Thousands of Algerian students protest after interim president appointed: witness

ALGIERS (Reuters) - Thousands of students protested in downtown Algiers after parliament appointed upper house chairman Abdelkader Bensalah as interim president on Tuesday, a Reuters witness said.

Police forces intervened to prevent protesters from marching in the streets but the rally was largely peaceful, the witness said.
