Blue Jays sign pitcher Oliver to $4 million deal

(Reuters) - The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reliever Darren Oliver to a one-year contract worth $4 million for the 2012 season with a club option for $3 million in 2013, the team said on Monday.

Oliver, 41, spent the past two seasons with Texas Rangers, posting a 5-5 record and 2.29 earned run average in 51 innings in 2011.

In 18 Major League seasons, the left-hander has appeared in 654 career games, starting 229, with a 112-90 record and 4.60 earned run average.
