Giants closer Wilson to have tests on strained muscle

NEW YORK (Reuters) - San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson has strained his left oblique and will undergo tests Monday to evaluate the extent of the injury, the World Series champions said Saturday.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy described the injury as mild, and Wilson said he would be ready for the start of the regular season on March 31, Major League Baseball website mlb.com reported.

Wilson, who began a scruffy trend on the team when he grew a bushy black beard last season, led the major leagues with 48 saves during the 2010 campaign that ended with San Francisco’s Fall Classic triumph over the Texas Rangers.

Earlier this spring, Wilson was bothered by a stiff lower back that held him out of spring training activities in Arizona until March 6.
