Barnz to take helm of "Beastly" teen tale

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Daniel Barnz, screenwriter of the upcoming coming-of-age drama “Phoebe in Wonderland,” has been hired to write and direct the supernatural teen saga “Beastly.”

Based on Alex Flinn’s young-adult novel of the same name, the high school fable centers on a popular teenage boy named Kyle Kingsbury who is turned into a hairy monster by a witch in his class.

With its teenage characters and supernatural overtones, the CBS Films project has echoes of “Twilight.” The film’s producers are seeking a young hearththrob in the vein of Robert Pattinson, who played Edward in “Twilight,” for the lead male role.
