OTTAWA (Reuters) - The value of Canadian building permits rose by 17.0% in September from August, the biggest monthly increase since May, Statistics Canada said on Thursday.

Some municipalities reported that builders began to submit applications earlier as a precaution against potential shutdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic, StatsCan said.

The residential sector saw higher intentions for both the single-family and multi-family components, while all three non-residential components also increased. The value of building permits were up in six provinces, with Ontario recording the largest increase.
