Canada says citizens have been kidnapped in Ghana

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada’s foreign ministry on Thursday said that Canadian citizens had been kidnapped in Ghana and that it was working closely with local authorities.

The families of those abducted have been informed and they are receiving assistance, according to a statement from the ministry, which provided no further details.

The foreign ministry could not confirm reports in Ghana’s local media the kidnapping took place on Monday and that two young Canadian women had been abducted. They were on a university exchange program in the city of Kumasi, Ghana’s 3news.com said.
