BEIJING (Reuters) - All ports in Hebei will stop trucking coal shipments from October the official Hebei Daily said on Thursday, citing a provincial government order as part of a wider environmental fight against smog.
Hebei is home to some of China’s largest coal ports including Tangshan, Qinhuangdao and Caofeidian.
Earlier this year, the neighboring Tianjin port imposed curbs on coal trucking and storage.
Increasing scrutiny of coal trucking in northern China has benefited ports in Hebei, as they are connected with railways.
Qinghuangdao reported a jump in coal and metal ore cargoes for the first six months. Tianjin port, however, lost almost one third of its bulk commodities throughput due to the port’s limited rail capacity.
