Chris Colfer blindsided by "Glee" ouster

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) - Ouch; talk about awkward.

“Glee” star Chris Colfer has admitted to celebrity television show Access Hollywood that he wasn’t aware he was leaving the Fox series after its third season until he read the news on Twitter.

Asked how he found out that he would be exiting, Colfer said on Thursday, “Yesterday on Twitter...Yeah, I found out that they made that announcement. I didn’t necessarily know that it was going to be our last season next year. I knew something like that was coming up eventually. I mean, we can’t be there forever.”

“Glee” creator Ryan Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that Colfer, along with Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, would be written off the show at the end of season three, noting that the series’ timeline dictates that they would be graduating from high school at that point.

Although Murphy made their departure official via Wednesday’s announcement, he all but said the cast members were on their way out during an interview with Ryan Seacrest last month.

Despite the unconventional way he found out about his impending goodbye, Colfer — who’s currently nominated for an Emmy in the category for supporting actor in a comedy series, thanks to his portrayal of Kurt Hummel on “Glee” — is taking the ouster in stride.

“I don’t necessarily want to leave so soon, but I mean, it’s fine,” he said. “It’s what it is. And all things come to an end.”

Murphy had no comment. Fox, as well as representatives for Michele and Monteith, did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s requests for comment.
