Egypt army says won't field presidential candidate

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt’s army will not field a candidate in a presidential election following the toppling of leader Hosni Mubarak, an assistant to the defense minister said on Thursday.

“(There will be) no presidential candidate from the military establishment in upcoming presidential elections,” Major-General Mokhtaar Mullah said at a news conference.
