WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is concerned about detentions and attacks on news media in Egypt, the State Department said on Wednesday in its first reaction to battles erupting in Cairo between supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
“We are concerned about detentions and attacks on news media in Egypt. The civil society that Egypt wants to build includes a free press,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said in a message on Twitter.
