Amid unrest, U.S. expresses confidence in Egyptian military

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. uniformed military officer, Admiral Mike Mullen, called for a return to calm in Egypt in a telephone call on Wednesday with his Egyptian counterpart, the Pentagon said.

Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed “his confidence in the Egyptian military’s ability to provide for their country’s security, both internally and throughout the Suez Canal area” in his conversation with Lieutenant-General Sami Enan, a spokesman for Mullen said.
