German appointee to lead EU executive hopes for parliamentary approval

STRASBOURG (Reuters) - Ursula von der Leyen, appointed by EU leaders as the next head of the bloc’s executive, said on Wednesday she hoped the European Parliament will give her its endorsement to take on the new job.
