Iran confirms first case of H1N1 flu: report

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran has diagnosed its first case of the H1N1 strain of flu, in a 16-year-old Iranian living in the United States, the official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

“This person was subjected to tests upon entering the country with respiratory infection symptoms and in this test the contraction of (the flu) was confirmed,” IRNA said, quoting a Ministry of Health statement.

It said the teen-ager was responding well to treatment. “The general situation of the patient is now satisfactory,” IRNA said.

The World Health Organization elevated the H1N1 strain to pandemic status earlier this month.
