Ex-Iowa RB Bullock dies in accident

Former Iowa running back Damon Bullock was struck by a car and killed early Sunday morning, his family said.

Bullock’s father, Roscoe Handy, told KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that his son was driving near the family home in Duncanville, Texas, when he was in a single-car crash around 3 a.m. Sunday. His car hit a light pole, and all street lights went dark.

Handy said Bullock parked his car and walked back into the street, where he was hit by a driver heading to work. That commuter stopped and called for help.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed his death in a news release.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Damon’s parents, Kimberly and Roscoe, and the entire family,” Ferentz said. “Damon’s tragic and unexpected death is a shock to all of us within the Iowa football program, as well as his former teammates. Damon was an outstanding young man and we enjoyed him being a part of the Hawkeye football program.”

Bullock played four seasons (2011-14) with the Hawkeyes, gaining 1,690 yards from scrimmage and scoring five touchdowns.
