French anti-terror prosecutor takes on investigation in Paris attack

PARIS (Reuters) - The Paris prosecutor’s anti-terror unit has taken on the investigation into a deadly knife attack on police headquarters, a source at the prosecutor’s office told Reuters on Friday.

On Thursday, a 45-year-old IT assistant at the police headquarters in central Paris went on a knife rampage inside the building, killing three police officers and an administrative worker before he was shot dead by an officer. French media have said the attacker had converted to Islam 18 months ago, but this has not been confirmed by authorities.

“In the light of the evidence gathered by criminal investigators at this stage of the inquiry, the national anti-terror prosecutor unit this evening took up the investigation into the events committed yesterday at the police prefecture”, a Paris prosecutor’s official said.
