(Reuters) - German conservative Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg will replace Michael Glos as Economy Minister Tuesday, German President Horst Koehler said.
Following are five facts about Guttenberg:
* At 37, Guttenberg will be the youngest minister in Merkel’s cabinet as well as Germany’s youngest Economy Minister in the postwar era.
* A member of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the Bavarian sister party of Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU), Guttenberg has had a speedy career within the conservatives.
Guttenberg became CSU general secretary in a generational shake-up at the top of the party last year after the CSU suffered severe losses in Bavaria’s regional election.
* The political scientist, who holds a doctorate in law, has been a member of parliament since 2002.
He is a defense expert and member of the Bundestag lower house of parliament’s foreign policy committee but has kept a relatively low national profile on other policy issues until he took on his top CSU post last year.
* Guttenberg, who is married and has two children, ran his family’s business before becoming a parliamentarian.
