Stressing their differences, German SPD congratulates new CDU leader

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, a member of the Social Democrats - the junior partner in the ruling coalition - congratulated Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on becoming leader of the Christian Democrats (CDU) on Friday.

“We represent different views but whoever leads the CDU has special responsibility for our country so I pass on my best wishes,” Maas wrote on Twitter.
